Spokesman Confirms Reports on Iran's New Envoy to IAEA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Araqchi confirmed earlier reports about Iran's decision to appoint a new envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Speaking to Tasnim on Thursday, Araqchi said the mission of the current envoy to the IAEA, Ali Asqar Soltaniyeh, will end soon.

“Another person is due to replace him (Soltaniyeh) and the administrative procedure of the replacement is underway."

Araqchi added that the name of the new Iranian envoy to the agency will be announced soon.

An informed source at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, too, told Tasnim today that Iran will appoint new envoy to the IAEA soon.

The mission of Iran’s current Ambassador to the IAEA Ali Asqar Soltaniyeh will end on August 31.

The source predicted that the Head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s Disarmament Office, Reza Najafi, will replace Soltaniyeh.

"His (Najafi's) decree will be issued soon and he will be introduced to the International Atomic Energy Agency," the source stated.
