MP: Terrorists Seeking to Foment Sectarian Strife through Violence

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Terrorist crimes committed by Takfiri agents are aimed at sparking sectarian strife and serve as a vehicle for Israel to take revenge on the resistance movement in Lebanon, said an Iranian MP in a message addressed to secretary general of the Lebanese Hezbollah.

“These terrorist crimes by Takfiri agents are aimed at fomenting religious sedition, sparking the flames of disputes and fratricide among Muslims, and particularly in dear Lebanon,” said Head of Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi in his Saturday message to Seyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Referring to the Tuesday's twin bombing attacks in front of the Iranian embassy in Beirut, he added, “This is not the first time that the Takfiri agents in the Islamic world resort to killing Muslims and affronting them -- the Shiite and Sunni alike -- with the aim of fanning the flames of sectarian conflicts in the Islamic lands, but their heinous plots have failed to achieve the intended objectives through vigilance of Islamic nations and scholars."

On Tuesday morning, twin explosions occurred around Iran's embassy in Beirut, killing at least 23 people and injuring some 150 others. Iranian cultural attache was among the dead.

Lebanese television station MTV said the blasts took place two minutes apart, with one man on foot detonating an explosive vest, and the second explosion caused by a car bomb. The security official confirmed one of the blasts was a suspected car bomb.

The Iranian embassy is located on a residential street, with apartment blocks and shops nearby.

The terrorist attacks were condemned by officials from many countries.

Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with some other top-ranking officials of the country, has blamed Israel for the deadly attacks.

“The terrorist incident in front of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s embassy building in Lebanon, which was masterminded and implemented by the Zionist agents,” read part of the statement issued by the ministry on Wednesday.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani emphasized on Wednesday that the US and the Zionist regime of Israel stand to gain most from acts similar to Beirut terrorist attacks against Iran's embassy.

“There is no doubt that the United States and the Zionist regime gain maximum interests from this type of operation, as they have been dreaming of creating chaotic conditions in Lebanon and sowing the seeds of discord among the Muslims,” said Larijani.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African and Middle East Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian also accused Israel masterminding the twin explosions near the Iranian embassy in Beirut.
