Iran's President Blasts World Powers’ Monopoly of Science

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani lashed out at the industrial countries for monopolizing science and technology with the aim of retaining hegemony and power, saying that the West has even resorted to acts of terror in Iran to hinder the country's scientific progress.

“The industrial countries considered the science and technology as their exclusive unwritten right in order to preserve hegemony and power, to the extent that their espionage and intelligence organizations allow themselves to assassinate our scientists and pundits, so that development and progress would not materialize in this country (Iran),” President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday in an address to a scientific ceremony in Tehran.

He further noted that the western countries had no doubt about the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear activities, as thousands of hours of inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has showed no indication that Iran’s nuclear program might have been diverted from a peaceful path to other purposes.

The president then called for a “specific movement” to achieve progress in scientific fields in the country, reiterating that the status quo necessitates scientific interaction with the whole world.

“We, who have acquired peaceful nuclear technology under pressure and sanctions, have produced radio medicines and have made good moves in the field of nanobiotechnology and ICT technology, should be able to accelerate such movement in more open conditions,” Rouhani added.

In relevant remarks in January, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called on the whole Iranian students in local or foreign universities to put effort into improving their knowledge and throw their weight behind the country’s progress and the Iranian nation’s prosperity.

Ayatollah Khamenei had also described the Iranian young students all over the world as “valuable plants” that have their roots in Iran.

The Leader also asserted that those Iranians studying abroad, like their peers in the country’s “lively and dynamic” universities, would “make valuable contributions” to the prosperity of their homeland and welfare of the Iranian nation.

The Supreme Leader further called on the young Iranian students to have insatiable thirst for high quality knowledge and pay complete attention to the scientific fields they select.
