Turkish Minister Urges Implementation of Preferential Trade Agreement with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) — Turkish Development Minister Cevdet Yilmaz called for the expansion of Tehran-Ankara ties, and emphasized the necessity for removing obstacles in the way of implementing the preferential trade agreement between the two neighboring states.

As regards their history, culture, and civilizations, Iran and turkey enjoy many commonalities, Yilmaz said during the 24th meeting of Iran-Turkey Joint Economic Commission in Tehran on Tuesday.

He also expressed the hope that the two countries would pave the way for the implementation of preferential trade agreement through establishing suitable grounds.

Yilmaz went to say that holding such joint commissions would result in the promotion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

In late January, Iran and Turkey signed a preferential trade agreement during a ceremony in Tehran attended by Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

On the sidelines of the ceremony, Erdogan said the goal is to boost trade between Iran and Turkey to $30 billion by 2015, emphasizing that the both sides have the political determination to reach that objective.

Erdogan also hailed what he called the rebirth of Iran-Turkey ties in 2014, hoping that the current year would be a prelude to a remarkable growth of trade exchange between the two neighbors.
