Azerbaijan Not to Pose Any Threats to Neighbors: Azeri DM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Republic of Azerbaijan’s Defense Minister Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov said the Azerbaijani territory will never be used against its neighbors.

Speaking on Tuesday in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart, Hasanov said no threat will ever be made from the Azerbaijani territory against any of its neighbors.

“This is the official policy of Azerbaijan (Republic) that we have reiterated at the level of international and regional institutions,” he underlined, adding that according to Azerbaijani constitution, it will never host another country’s military bases.

Hasanov made the remarks in response to a question about rumors that Azerbaijan could be a base for a possible Israeli raid on Iran.

The Zionist regime of Israel has long been making threats of carrying out a strike against Iran’s nuclear energy facilities.

The threats are based on the unfounded claims that the peaceful nuclear activities of the Islamic Republic include a military component.

Iranian officials have refuted the allegation and have promised a crushing response to any military strike against the country, warning that any such measure could result in a war that would spread beyond the Middle East.

Hasanov further referred to his talks with Iranian officials in Tehran, and said discussions were made on military, security, and political cooperation between the two countries as well as regional and international issues.

“I am pleased to say that we share views (with Iran on these issues)," he stated.

Heading a high-ranking defense delegation, Azerbaijan’s defense minister arrived in the Iranian capital city of Tehran on Monday to meet his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and the country’s senior defense and military officials.
