Ba’athists, Extremists Have No Right to Enter Iraqi Politics: Iraqi MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Vice-Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Qusai al-Suhail said Ba’athists and extremists should not become active in the Iraqi politics.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, al-Suhail said members of the dissolved Ba’ath party and Takfiris (extremist groups who consider fellow Muslims as infidels) have no right to enter the scene of politics in Iraq given the record of their enmity with the Iraqi nation.

Remnants of Iraq’s Baath party, loyal to former dictator Saddam Hussein, and extremist groups linked to Al-Qaeda have stepped up their terrorist attacks in Iraq to disrupt its security in the run-up to the country’s parliamentary elections.

Iraq’s first parliamentary elections since the withdrawal of US forces from the country are slated for the 30th of April.

Al-Suhail further described the forthcoming polls as "vital and important for the people of Iraq," and urged Iraqis to vote for qualified and eligible candidates.

He also hoped that the next parliament will defend the rights of Iraqi people much more actively and play its supervisory role as best as possible.

Campaigning has begun for Iraq’s elections, with no single party expected to win an absolute majority.

The walls in the capital of Baghdad and other cities around the country are plastered with photos of candidates vying for the 328 seats in the Council of Representatives.
