Foolad Advances to Asian Champions League Last 16
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran’s Foolad football team reached the AFC Champions League last 16 Wednesday after the team defeated El Jaish of Qatar in Group B.
Foolad, who won the Iran Professional League on Friday, moved top of group with 11 points with a 3-1 win over the Qatari team in Ahvaz’s Ghadir Stadium.
Brazilian Nilmar gave the visiting team a lead just nine minutes into the match.
Bakhtiar Rahmani opened the scoring for Foolad in the 21st minute. Gholamreza Rezaei doubled the lead for Foolad before the interval.
Foolad Brazilian striker Luciano Pereira Mendes secured a 3-1 home win over El Jaish in the 90th minute.
In another group match, Bunyodkor of Uzbekistan defeated Al Fateh of Saudi Arabia 3-2 in Tashkent’s Jar Stadium.
With one week remaining, Foolad booked a berth in the knock out stage.
