Iran, G5+1 Experts to Resume Talks in May

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Expert-level negotiations between Iran and the sextet of world powers are planned to resume in New York next month.

Experts from Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) will hold a new round of talks over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear energy program on May 5-9.

The expert-level talks will be over technical issues aimed at reaching a consensus.

Iran and the world powers in November last year signed an interim deal on Tehran’s nuclear case, which stipulates that over the course of six months, the parties will draw up a comprehensive nuclear deal which will lead to a lifting of the whole sanctions on Iran.

The two sides wrapped up their latest round of high-level nuclear talks in the Austrian capital, Vienna, on April 9.

There will be a fresh round of high-level talks between Iran and the sextet beginning on May 13.

Earlier this week, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the road to a final, comprehensive deal between Iran and world powers on Tehran’s peaceful nuclear program is fraught with difficulties, but at the same time noted that the deal would be possible within a 6-month span.

“Today, everybody believes that reaching the ultimate agreement is possible within the very span of six months,” he said on Tuesday.
