Iran Calls for Closer Parliamentary Ties with Switzerland

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament’s First Vice Speaker Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabifard expressed hope that Tehran-Bern parliamentary relations would be promoted in the future.

Aboutorabifard made the remarks during an open session of the Iranian parliament on Sunday, attended by members of Iran-Switzerland parliamentary friendship group.

The senior lawmaker, who chaired the session in the absence of Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, appreciated the Swiss delegation for its presence at the legislature.

Aboutorabifard also expressed the hope that close parliamentary relations between the two countries would help promote peace and friendship as well as security in the international community.

Switzerland has had a consulate in Tehran since 1919 which was raised to the status of embassy in 1936. The Swiss embassy in Tehran has been serving as Washington's interest section since the US cut its diplomatic ties with Iran in 1980.
