Saudi Arabia Holds Talks with Syrian Opposition on Military Aid

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Saudi Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Saudi Arabia, reiterated his country’s support for the Syrian opposition.

The Saudi official made the remarks in a meeting with the leader of Syria's opposition National Coalition, Ahmad al-Jarba, and his accompanying delegation in Riyadh on Tuesday.

Earlier, a Syrian opposition military source had said that military aid to the Syrian opposition is expected to be high on the agenda during the talks between al-Jarba and Saudi Arabian officials.

Syria was hit by a violent unrest since mid-March 2011, where the Syrian government accuses foreign actors, mainly the Saudi Arabia, of orchestrating the conflict by supporting the militant opposition groups with arms and money.

Today hundreds of armed groups, including terrorist Takfiri brigades affiliated with Al-Qaeda, are battling both the national army and each other, complicating any efforts to reach a political settlement.
