TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian parliamentary delegation is set to visit Iraq, Syria and Lebanon in the near future in a bid to share experiences with those countries’ parliaments in the area of city council elections and the relevant regulations, a lawmaker said.

Seyed Eisa Darayee, member of the Iranian parliament’s councils and internal affairs commission, told the Tasnim News Agency on Wednesday that members of the parliamentary commission are scheduled to travel to Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, probably next week.

“According to the plans, members of the commission are scheduled to pay a visit to Iraq, Syria and Lebanon in order to share experiences between our country and them in the sphere of the (city) councils elections and the relevant laws,” he explained.

He noted that the Iranian lawmakers are also expected to hold a number of meetings with the parliament speakers of those three nations and some other parliamentary officials.

“We will also probably hold meetings with Secretary General of Lebanese Hezbollah (Resistance Movement) Seyed Hassan Nasrallah and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in this trip,” Darayee added.

In a similar development in February, an Iranian parliamentary team, led by Chairman of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi paid a visit to Syria.

The Iranian parliament has in recent months stepped up efforts to develop ties with the legislatures of the other countries as part of Tehran’s new foreign policy approach.
