Iran’s Visa Waiver Program to Include More Nations: Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s intelligence minister announced that plans are underway to lift visa requirements for the nationals of 12 countries.

Speaking in a meeting on tourism, held in Tehran, Seyed Mahmoud Alawi said his ministry has prepared the ground for lifting visa requirements for the foreign nationals.

He said 12 countries would reciprocally be included in the country’s visa waiver program.

According to the minster, Iran is now giving the foreign visitors entry visas in two airports, noting that such visas will be obtainable in two more Iranian airports in the near future.

Iran has in recent months stepped up efforts to attract foreign tourists in a bid to give a boost to its economy.

According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in 2013, international tourism generated $1.4 trillion in export earnings.
