Israeli Troops Clash with Palestinians Marking "Naksa Day"

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Israeli military troops fired stun grenades during clashes with Palestinian protesters in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah on Thursday.

The protesters were marking "Naksa Day", meaning the "Day of Setback" - an annual commemoration of the 1967 Six-Day War.

Protesters and Israeli forces clashed near the Qalandia checkpoint, the main roadblock separating Ramallah from al-Quds, (Jerusalem), Associated Press reported.

On June 5, 1967 Israeli warplanes launched a surprise attack on Egypt's airforce.

In the resulting war, Egypt lost the Sinai Peninsula and Gaza Strip, Syria gave up the Golan Heights, and Jordan relinquished the West Bank and east al-Quds (Jerusalem).

Arabs have long called the Six-Day War the "naksa," or "setback". Its impact remains a deep wound.
