Iranian Cleric Raps Int'l Bodies' Silence over ISIL Atrocities
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian cleric criticized world bodies for failing to condemn the crimes committed by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group.
Tehran's Provisional Friday Prayers Leader Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Movahedi Kermani on Friday said international bodies like the United Nations, UN Security Council, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Arab League should decisively condemn the inhumane crimes of the Takfiri (extremist) group.
He described the anti-Islamic actions of the ISIL militants as "a threat to global peace and security."
Since June 10, Iraq has witnessed a fresh wave of violence fueled by the ISIL terrorists. Violence in Iraq escalated last month after militants from the terrorist group took control of large swathes of the Arab country. The ISIL has vowed to continue its raid towards Baghdad.
Meanwhile, Iraqi security forces backed by thousands of volunteers have pushed ahead with their campaign against the militants and managed to retake control of several areas captured by the ISIL.
Ayatollah Movahedi Kermani further praised the Fatwa (religious decree) issued by senior Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani about the need for fighting the ISIL, and said the decree played a major role in helping the Iraqi army advance against militants.
On June 13, Ayatollah Sistani issued a Fatwa calling on the Iraqi people to take up arms and defend their country against Takfiri militants belonging to the ISIL. Iraqi media say 3 millions of Iraqi people have voiced their preparedness to join the fight.
