Official Denies Report of Fire at Iran’s Evin Prison

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Head of Iran’s Evin prison dismissed as a “lie” the recent media reports that a fire had erupted in one of the jail’s wards last week.

Last week, some media outlets attributed to anti-Iran groups, including the terrorist Mojahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO), reported a fire on July 1 in one of the Evin prison wards.

In reply, the prison chief, Ali Ashraf Rashidi, announced in a cultural ceremony on Saturday night that such reports are nothing but a lie, noting that the anti-Iran groups are not expected to provide authentic reports anyway.

“Like how two electricity wires may have contact in any house resulting in short circuit and puff of smoke, the same incident happened in the clerics ward,” he explained.

Evin Prison is located in Evin neighborhood, northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
