MP: No Deal Unless Iran’s Interests Served
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - An Iranian lawmaker said that the failure of talks over Iran’s nuclear energy program will not cause any problems for the Iranian nation, stressing that no nuclear deal can be secured between Iran and six world powers unless the country’s interests are served.
“(Uranium) Enrichment and the future nuclear needs are among (our) red lines and the G5+1 cannot reach a final deal without respecting Iran’s needs,” Abbas Ali Mansouri Arani, a member of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, told the Tasnim News Agency on Saturday.
He added that Iran purposefully attends the nuclear talks, however, it has already been prepared “even for tougher sanctions,” should the ongoing negotiations in Vienna fail.
Since July 2, delegates from Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) have launched a fresh round of high-profile talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna in a bid to hammer out a comprehensive deal on Tehran’s nuclear case.
The long-awaited accord, which would follow an interim deal (Joint Plan of Action), is aimed at resolving the decade-long standoff on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.
