Islamic States Urged to Collaborate in Defending Gaza

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani called on the Islamic countries to join hands and hold closer consultations as part of a broader effort to end Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

“Given the escalation and continuation of inhuman and savage attacks by the Zionist regime (of Israel) against defenseless people of Palestine, the Islamic countries should hold close consultations to stop the strikes,” Ali Larijani told his Omani counterpart in a telephone conversation on Sunday.

He noted that Iran’s parliament, which holds the presidency of the Inter-Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation, will host a troika meeting of the union to explore avenues for providing political support for the Palestinian nation.

For his part, the Omani speaker, Sheikh Khaled bin Halal Al-Maoni, praised Iran for its constant backing for the Palestinian nation, and deplored the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Iran’s parliament will host an inter-parliamentary troika meeting attended by the former, current, and future chairmen of the Parliamentary Union of Islamic Countries (PUIC) on Tuesday.

The decision to convene the parliamentary gathering was made after an escalation of Israeli offensive against people of Gaza.

The Tel Aviv regime has launched a ground military operation in the Gaza Strip since Thursday after 10 days of bombardment of the enclave from the air and sea.

Around 500 Palestinians have been killed and thousands have been wounded in the 14-day Israeli assault on the densely-populated enclave of 1.8 million Palestinians.
