Russian Official Upbeat about Future of Tehran-Moscow Trade Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs on Monday expressed the hope that the positive approach in the negotiations between Iran and six world powers on the country’s nuclear program would help promote Tehran-Moscow trade relations.

Alexander Shokhin in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanaei, discussed a range of issues, including the latest developments in the nuclear talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) as well as their effects on trade relations between the two countries.

The Russian official said he is hopeful that the “constructive and positive approach” adopted by Iran and the sextet in the nuclear talks would help promote mutual cooperation between Iran and Russia in the area of industry.

Shokhin also blamed certain unilateral sanctions against Iran, especially banking bans, for the existing economic problems facing Tehran and Moscow to promote trade ties.

After nearly three weeks of intensive diplomatic negotiations in the Austrian capital of Vienna that began on July 2, Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany) agreed to continue talks on Tehran’s nuclear program for another four months.

The parties decided to extend the nuclear talks until November 24 in the hope of clinching a final deal to resolve the decade-long standoff on Iran’s nuclear energy program. The four-month extension of the talks will begin on July 21.

Sanaei, for his part, attached great significance to Iran-Russia relations, saying he is confident that trade transactions between the two countries would increase in the future.

He emphasized that Iran’s economic sector is ready to cooperate with the Russian union.
