Bashar Jaafari: Enemies Outraged at Damascus Gains
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria's UN Ambassador Bashar Jaafari said Syrian army's gains and the Arab country’s political achievements have made enemies pile up pressure on Damascus.
Jaafari made the comments in his Monday meeting with the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian.
During the meeting which was held in Tehran, Jaafari said the enemies of Syrian nation are angry with the successful holding of the presidential election.
Syria’s UN envoy added that the terrorist groups such as Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) are the product of Western plots who want to wage sectarian wars and keep the regional countries busy with each other.
Amir Abdollahian for his part praised Syrians’ perseverance in overcoming the crisis and expressed the hope that following the presidential election, the government has been taking practical measures to improve economy and accelerate reconstruction of the country.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister underscored that the developments in Syria and Iraq are interconnected, reiterating that the Islamic Republic of Iran would continue its strategy of countering terrorism.
The ISIL Takfiri militants battled with Syrian government forces, wreaking havoc in the country. Many of them fled Syria and went to Iraq follwing the gains by the Syrian military.
The ISIL terrorist group, an offshoot of al-Qaeda, managed to capture areas on both sides of the Iraqi-Syrian border after seizing the Iraqi city of Mosul on June 10 and sweeping towards Baghdad.
Since then, Iraqi security forces have launched major offensives to retake control of the captured areas.
