Iran Basketball Team to Play Eight Friendly Matches

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The Iranian national basketball team is going to play eight friendly matches ahead of the 2014 FIBA World Cup.

Iran will travel to Poland with a group of 15 players on Wednesday. The Mehmet Becirovic's men will take part in a four-nation tournament with participation of host Poland, Portugal and Sweden from August 1 to 3.

A stopover in Bratislava will see them play Slovakia in back-to-back games on their way back home.

A short break at Tehran later, Iran will head to Slovenia to play the home country as also Lithuania and Brazil in the another four-nation before hitting Granada for its second appearance in the world basketball’s biggest event.

Iran has been drawn with World No 2 team Spain, 2013 Eurobasket winner France, Egypt, Serbia and Brazil in Group A of the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The competitions will take place from August 30 to September 14 in Spain.

The Iranian team won the 5th edition of the FIBA Asia Cup for the second time in a row last week.
