Iran Condemns Killing of Anti-Israel Protesters in Nigeria

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s foreign ministry spokeswoman strongly condemned the deadly violence against the peaceful demonstrators who had taken part in the International Quds Day rallies in Nigeria.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran consider the armed attack on Quds Day demonstration in the city of Zaria as unacceptable and totally inhumane,” said Marziyeh Afkham.

Her comments came in reaction to an attack by Nigerian security forces on peaceful demonstrators marking the International Quds Day in the northern city of Zaria on Friday.

Some reports say the violence left over two-dozen people dead.

“Unfortunately, Muslim Nigerian demonstrators, who were marching in support of the Palestinian people and in protest at the Israeli regime’s atrocities in the occupied territories, were unfairly and brutally targeted like the defenseless people of Gaza,” Afkham said.

Iran expects the Nigerian government to behave responsibly towards this incident and bring those behind the deadly attack to justice, she added.
