Iran Slams Egypt’s Delay in Transferring Humanitarian Aid to Gaza

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s deputy foreign minister called Cairo’s lengthy delay in issuing the necessary permission for the delivery of Tehran’s humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip as “unacceptable”.

“We strictly call on the relevant officials in Cairo to accelerate the issuance of (shipment) permission” Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

The senior Iranian diplomat further said that some 60 Palestinian infants, children and women, who have been seriously injured, are waiting for Cairo to allow the Iranian humanitarian flight to enter Egypt and transfer them to Iran for medical treatment.

He noted that a few days ago, Iran has informed the Egyptian foreign ministry and its interest section in Tehran about the first 100-ton cargo of humanitarian aid supplies as well as the list of injured Palestinians due to be transferred to Iran.

"But" Amir Abdollahian said "no license has been issued for the flight yet.”

Egypt's frequent closure of the Rafah border crossing, the Palestinian enclave's prime gate to the outside world, has exacerbated an already dire humanitarian situation in the coastal enclave, particularly after Israel started a new wave of attacks on Gaza on July 8 followed by ground invasion into the enclave.

So far, more than 1,250 Palestinians have been killed in the Gaza Strip while over 7,000 people have been injured.
