Iranian MP: Palestinians in WB Should Enjoy Necessary Equipment for Resistance
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A senior Iranian lawmaker said Palestinians in the West Bank should be armed with sufficient military equipment in a bid to form a united resistance front against the Israeli regime.
“Arming the West Bank is a strategic and critical subject outlined by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution as a major policy,” Member of the Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Esmail Kowsari told the Tasnim News Agency, referring to Tuesday’s remarks by Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, who had reiterated the necessity for supporting Palestinian resistance groups in their fight against the Israeli regime.
Ayatollah Khamenei on Tuesday called the whole world and the Islamic world in particular to arm the Palestinian nation as much as possible.
Imam Khamenei also warned that the US emphasis on the need for stripping the anti-Israeli resistance of weapons was aimed at depriving the Palestinian nation from their limited possibility for defense.
Imam Khamenei had earlier described the armed resistance as the only way to confront the “destructive regime” of Israel.
The Supreme Leader had urged that the West Bank should also be armed like Gaza, recommending those who are interested in Palestine’s destiny to act in this regard in order to relieve Palestinians’ distress.
On July 8, Israel launched air strikes on the Gaza Strip. After 10 days of bombardment of the enclave from the air and sea, the Israeli forces started a ground operation in the Gaza Strip.
The death toll from the 23-day-old Israeli onslaught on Gaza has reached over 1,260 and over 7,000 have been wounded.
