OSCE Observers Start Working at Russian Border Checkpoints

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Observers of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) have started working on the Russian-Ukrainian border, the chief of the OSCE mission, Paul Picard, said Wednesday.

The first group of observers, comprising four monitors and three administrative workers, are ready to start monitoring the operation of the Russian border checkpoints of Gukovo and Donetsk, the Itar-Tass news agency quoted Picard as saying.

"Four observers are already working in Russia's southern Rostov region. Several teams of two observers will be on round-the-clock duty at checkpoints. More monitors will join soon," he added.

A total of 15 OSCE members will come to the region in a few days and the mission might be extended for more than three months, according to the chief, who added that regional agencies are assisting the observers to ensure their security, Xinhua reported.

Russia on Friday invited representatives from the OSCE to its border area to conduct investigations into the allegations of military aid from Russia flowing into Ukraine.
