Afshin Ghotbi Fired as Shimizu S-Pulse Coach

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Afshin Ghotbi has been fired by Shimizu S-Pulse following the poor results at the J-League’s first half of the season.

Former Japan international Katsumi Oenoki has been appointed as Shimizu S-Pulse coach a day after Ghotbi was fired, the J.League first-division club announced.

Shimizu is currently languishing in 12th place of the 18 J. League clubs with a 6-8 record and three draws.

Ghotbi was appointed as Shimizu coach in 2011. Though he led S-Pulse to a runner-up finish in the 2012 Nabisco Cup, the club never placed higher than ninth in the league under the Iranian-born American.

Ghotbi has already managed the Iranian popular team Persepolis and the country’s national team.

Carlos Queiroz replaced Ghotbi as Team Melli coach in 2011.
