Iranian MP Slams France’s Ban on Pro-Gaza Rally

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian lawmaker criticized France for its controversial decision to ban a protest against Israel's Gaza offensive, saying Paris’ “complicity with Israel” was not something new.

“We have already witnessed full coordination and cooperation between France and the Zionist regime (of Israel) and this is not new, but our least expectation was that they (France) would allow people to hold demonstrations in support of the oppressed Gazans,” member of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mohammad Hassan Asafari told the Tasnim News Agency.

Last week, French police banned a protest against Israel’s Gaza attacks that was due to take place in Paris on July 26.

The government banned the rallies in fear of what it called anti-Semitic moves.

Elsewhere in his comments, Asafari accused France and Israel’s other allies of “abetting” the slaughter of Palestinians, underlining that all those accomplices will one day “receive a response to their crimes.”

Israel’s offensive in Gaza, which is in its 24th day, has killed more than 1,300 Palestinians and has injured over 7,000 others.

The Israeli onslaught has stirred up huge passions in France, home to the largest Muslim and Jewish communities in western Europe with around five million Muslims and half a million Jews.
