Police Chief Calls Iran "Example of Security, Tranquility in Region"

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s police chief praised Armed Forces’ efforts to preserve security in the country, emphasizing that Iran now enjoys high level of security.

“Today, Iran has become a symbol of security and tranquility in the region,” Brigadier General Esmail Ahmadi Moqaddam told a gathering in the northern province of Qazvin on Wednesday.

He added that as the region is experiencing a critical situation, the number of the Iranian people’s travels on holidays proves that there is tranquility in the country.

In relevant remarks on Monday, the Iranian police chief had also underlined that the country’s national borders are completely secure, and warned that the Iranian Armed Forces will severely crush any attempt to undermine border security.

“Iran’s Armed Forces are in full control of the country’s borders and will severely deal with any attempt against border security,” Ahmadi Moqaddam told the Tasnim News Agency.

Responding to a question about claims that terrorists from the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) are nearing Iran's eastern borders, the police chief said, “The terrorists are far from our borders.”

“Of course, we are vigilant and are monitoring their activities,” he added.

The ISIL is a militant group in Iraq and Syria believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries. The terrorist group claims as an independent state inside Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.

In addition to attacks on government and military targets, the group has claimed responsibility for attacks that have killed thousands of Iraqi civilians.
