Iraqi Paralympic Committee Seeks Iran’s Assistance

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iraqi National Paralympic Committee (NPC) signed an agreement with its Iranian counterpart, seeking help from the Islamic Republic.

“We had similar agreement with Iran before, but we wanted to renew the agreement and develop it. A number of famous Iranian athletes and coaches are in Iraq and are training with the Iraqi teams," said Iraq’s NPC President, Aqeel Hameed al-Oudah.

Oudah stressed that the training cooperation and the exchange of coaches are the main agenda in the MoU, saying that the agreement would soon be practical.

Following the signature of the MoU, Iran’s NPC President, Mahmoud Khosrawi Vafa reiterated that the agreement was one-sided, adding that the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) had asked Iran, as a leading regional country in Parlympics, to give technical assistance to Asian and in particular Middle Eastern countries.

During the last 20 years, Iran has been very successful in Paralympics and Iranian Paralympic athletes are even world leaders in sports such as sitting volleyball.

At the last Paralympic Games in London in 2012, Iranian athletes won ten gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals including one gold and two bronze for the women of the team.
