Iran’s Flag-Bearer Alizadeh Wins Gold at Youth Olympics

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Kimia Alizadeh Zenoorin claimed a gold medal in the women’s -63 kg taekwondo event at the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

The Iranian athlete beat Cameroon’s Sokeng Ngassa 23-0 in round of 16. Alizadeh defeated Amber Pannemans from Belgium 15-2 in quarterfinals and booked a place in the final after beating Colombian Yopasa Gomez 12-2.

Alizadeh ultimately claimed the gold medal after defeating Russian Yulia Turutina 10-7 in the final game.

Ramin Safaviyeh has already claimed a gold medal in the men’s -100 kg judo event at the competitions.

Mahdi Eshaqi also won the gold medal in the men -48 kg taekwondo event.

Iran is participating in the Youth Olympics with 16 athletes in swimming, judo, shooting, equestrian, athletic, taekwondo, beach volleyball, Greco-Roman and weightlifting.

The 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games (officially known as The 2nd Summer Youth Olympics Games) is the second Summer Youth Olympic Games, an international sports, education and cultural festival for teenagers, which commenced on August 16 in Nanjing, People's Republic of China.
