Iran Too Strong for Kuwait in FIBA Asia U-18 Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran basketball team opened the 23rd FIBA Asia U-18 Championship with a 132-43 victory over Kuwait on Wednesday.

The Iranian team beat Kuwait in Group C in Doha’s Al-Gharafa Venue.

Iran will face Kazakhstan on Thursday.

Abdolsamad Soroodi and Armi Nazarian led Iran for 22 points.

Host Qatar has been pitted against defending champion China, India and Malaysia in Group A.

Runner-up South Korea is in Group B along with the Philippines and Jordan.

Group C consists of 22nd FIBA Asia U-18 Championship bronze medalist Iran, Kazakhstan, and Kuwait.

Japan, Chinese Taipei, Iraq and Hong Kong are in Group D.

The 23rd FIBA Asia U-18 Championship is the qualifying event for the 2015 FIBA U-19 World Championship.

The top three teams from the competition will represent FIBA Asia at the 2015 FIBA U-19 World Championship.
