Deadly Airstrikes Target Fighters in Tripoli
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Two airstrikes targeted positions of government-aligned fighters in Libya's capital, Tripoli, killing at least 15 people and wounding 20 others, a senior member of an armed group said.
The official from the Misrata group allied to the government told AP that the two airstrikes by unidentified warplanes early on Saturday hit the interior ministry's building and several fighter positions. He said the airstrikes also set fire to a warehouse.
The senior official said two sons of the head of the military council of Misrata armed group, Ibrahim Bin Rajab, were among the wounded. He spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to journalists.
Renegade General Khalifa Haftar's air force claimed responsibility for similar airstrikes on fighters in Tripoli several days ago.
Haftar has been targeting armed fighters as rival militias have been fighting among each other for dominance in Tripoli.
Libya is witnessing its worst spasm of violence since former leader Muammar Gaddafi was toppled in 2011.
Many of the rebel brigades which helped overthrow him have become powerful, heavily-armed fighters, acting individually.
