Speaker Extols Palestine’s “Historical” Victory against Israel

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Gaza’s resistance to the Israeli military strikes inflicted a “historical defeat” on the Zionist regime.

Speaking at an open session of the parliament on Wednesday, Larijani said although the oppressed Palestinian nation suffered thousands of casualties in seven weeks of Israeli offensive, the Zionist regime will have to "pay the price for its historical defeat" both inside and outside the occupied territories.

On Tuesday evening, a ceasefire deal between Palestinians and Israel, which was mediated in Cairo, took effect.

The truce, which ends seven weeks of Israeli brutal attacks on the Gaza Strip, called for an indefinite halt to hostilities, the immediate opening of Gaza's blockaded crossings with Israel and Egypt and a widening of the territory's fishing zone in the Mediterranean.

Palestinian health officials say 2,142 people, most of them civilians, including more than 490 children, have been killed in the enclave since July 8, when Israel launched an offensive on the coastal enclave of 1.8 million population.

Elsewhere in his comments, the Iranian speaker admired the people of Gaza for their firm resistance to the “Zionist adventurers”, whom he said received all-out supports provided by the US and the West, amid the silence by the Arab countries.

Larijani further noted that Iran is now “proud” of its continuous backing for the people of Palestine during the most difficult days.

From the outset of war on Gaza, the Islamic Republic of Iran had been staying beside Palestinians.

Back on July 24, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei described political support for the people of Gaza as a duty for all Muslim and non-Muslim nations.
