Iran Runner-Up in FIBA Asia U-18 Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran lost to title-holder China in the 23rd FIBA Asia U-18 Championship final game on Thursday.

China beat Iran 66-48 in the final held at the Al Gharafa Stadium in Doha, securing its 11th gold medal — third in a row — in the event.

Navid Rezaeifar led Iran with 13 points, while China’s Zou Yuchen went on to finish with 14 points.

“We came in with a certain plan to win the gold. And I think we executed most of our plans well,” China coach Fan Bin, who won his second FIBA Asia U-18 Championship gold in three editions, told fibaasia.net

“It’s very important for the boys to finish with the gold. That provides a lot of boost to their morale in the days to come,” he added.

“This team is a work in progress. We do expect them to serve China basketball in the future. But they still have a lot to learn,” he signed off.

In the bronze-medal match, South Korea defeated Chinese Taipei 70-58.

Top three teams China, Iran and South Korea earned the right to represent FIBA Asia at the 2015 FIBA U-19 World Championship to be played at Crete, Greece.
