TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said his visit to Moscow would mainly focus on the nuclear talks between Tehran and the sextet of world powers, to which Russia is also a member.

The top Iranian diplomat arrived in Moscow on Friday morning for what he called a “short working trip”.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival at Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport, Zarif said he plans to discuss a range of issues with his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov.

“Nuclear issues will be among the most important discussions we will have in the meeting, because Russia is a major member of the Group 5+1, and the Islamic Republic of Iran has widespread relations with that country is the field of nuclear technologies,” he explained.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) are in talks to reach a final agreement over Tehran’s nuclear energy program and the removal of unjustified sanctions against Iran.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Foreign Minister Zarif hailed “remarkable cooperation” between Tehran and Moscow in the nuclear field, saying such ties are expanding.

“The two countries are in talks over the construction of new power plants and bilateral nuclear cooperation,” he added.

Zarif also noted that he will discuss a set of issues on the bilateral ties and regional developments with Lavrov, including the threat of extremism, and the situation in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.
