Israel’s Defeat in Gaza Failure of US Policies: Iran’s DM

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Defense Minister on Monday lauded the “sensational and indescribable” resistance of the people of Gaza in the face of Israel’s military strikes, and interpreted the Palestinians’ victory as the failure of US policies in the Middle East region.

“The Zionist regime’s humiliating defeat is in fact the failure of US policies in the region,” Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan said on Monday.

He said it is time for Washington to accept the realities and recommended the Americans to stop supporting Zionism and terrorism and to get rid of the “vortex” of problems created by Israel.

Dehqan underlined that Israel will never emerge victorious in any other wars.

Israelis are not even capable of making a decision about waging a new war , the minister noted, downplaying Tel Aviv’s rhetoric as “political bluffs”.

On August 26, a ceasefire deal between Palestinians and Israel, which was mediated in Cairo, took effect.

The truce, which ended seven weeks of Israeli brutal attacks on the Gaza Strip, called for an indefinite halt to hostilities, the immediate opening of Gaza's blockaded crossings with Israel and Egypt and a widening of the territory's fishing zone in the Mediterranean.

A total of 2,142 people, most of them civilians including more than 490 children, have been killed in Gaza since war broke out on July 8, after Israel launched an offensive on the coastal enclave of 1.8 million population.

A total of 69 people have been killed on the Israeli side, nearly all of them soldiers.

Thousands of homes in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed or damaged by the Israeli offensive.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights said 540,000 people had been displaced in the Gaza Strip.
