UN, Iranian Officials Discuss Lebanon

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Derek Plumbly, met Iranian officials in Tehran to discuss the latest conditions in Lebanon.

During his two-day stay in Tehran, Plumbly held meetings with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian and the country’s former foreign minister, Ali Akbar Velayati.

The meetings focused on Lebanon’s situation as well as the security, political and humanitarian challenges the Arab country is now facing because of its proximity to Syria, which has been plagued with crisis since 2011.

The UN official also expressed gratitude to the Iranian politicians for providing the opportunity to discuss the issues of mutual interest regarding Lebanon.

Iran has repeatedly voiced preparedness to help Lebanon in its efforts to counter terrorism.
