Iranian MP Calls US-Led Coalition against ISIL “Political Game”

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker questioned the sincerity of a US-led coalition against the ISIL terrorist group, saying that it is just a political game pursued by the US in the region.

“The coalition is a political game and scenario because the US has failed to confront the Syrian nation and therefore today, it is pursuing another strategy in Syria under the pretext of campaign against terrorism...,” Mohammad Hassan Asafari, a member of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, told the Tasnim News Agency.

“The ISIL is a stooge of the US and they (the ISIL terrorists) entered Syria after being given the green light by the US, and today are carrying out brutal operations in Iraq,” he noted.

He also emphasized that if those countries, which have entered the coalition against the ISIL, stop their support for the terrorists, the group will collapse.

“We consider the coalition as a political (game) because the US is leading the alliance and those who provided the ISIL group with military equipment are participating in it,” Asafari said.

The Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) is a militant group in Iraq and Syria believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries. The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.
