President Rouhani Calls for Expansion of Tehran-Pyongyang Ties

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani called for the further improvement of ties between Iran and North Korea.

“The two countries and nations (of Iran and North Korea) have maintained very good and friendly relations in history and I hope these ties will further expand in different areas, especially in economic and commercial fields,” President Rouhani said Tuesday in a meeting with North Korea’s foreign minister.

He added that Iran attaches special importance to the development and enhancement of relations with countries in East Asia.

Iran’s chief executive further underlined the establishment of peace and security in the Korean Peninsula, saying that some countries are seeking to wage war in the region and in the world but peace and security will remain stable through the prudence of regional leaders and officials.

North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Su-yong, for his part, conveyed the warm greetings of leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea Kim Jong-un to President Rouhani and stressed Pyongyang’s resolve to strengthen ties with Tehran.

He also lauded and expressed support for the Iranian nation’s steadfastness in safeguarding its inalienable right to peaceful nuclear activities.
