Iran Renews Support for Yemen’s Stability

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister reiterated Tehran’s support for unity and stability in Yemen, expressing the confidence that the Yemeni people would not allow extremism to derail political reconciliation in their country.

The Yemeni government and people will not allow Takfiri terrorists to divert the course of public demands and political reconciliation towards extremism and violence, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Saturday.

He underlined that Tehran favors independence, unity, stability and security in Yemen.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes any political reconciliation in Yemen, which would guarantee the rights of people and all domestic parties in this country," he pointed out.

His comments came amid disputes between government forces and Houthi fighters in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa.

The Shiite Houthies have staged sit-ins in and around the capital Sanaa for about one month, demanding government ouster and reinstatement of fuel subsidies.

Their protests intensified after President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi made an announcement earlier this month that he would replace the government to end the crisis. Hadi also reduced the fuel price hike that triggered the mass protests in late July.
