Iran's FM Blames Wrong Policies for Growth of Terrorism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif emphasized that wrong policies on and double-standard attitude towards the issue of terrorism have been main factors behind the growing power of terrorist groups in the region.

“Wrong policies of the past years have strengthened terrorist and extremist groups,” Zarif said during a meeting with his Australian counterpart Julie Bishop in New York on Saturday.

To confront this Anti-human phenomenon, Zarif said, it is required to adopt a unified strategy and set out comprehensive and new approaches.

He went on to say that in order to find a solution to extremism and terrorism, realities on the ground must be taken into account seriously.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif hailed the political process in Iraq and said Iran attaches serious attention to stronger security and stability in its neighboring country.

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers also exchanged views on the issue of immigration and the problems facing Iranians who have immigrated to Australia.
