Iran Moving in Path of Progress despite Decades of Sanctions: MP

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker praised the country’s continued move towards progress despite decades of sanctions imposed on Tehran by the West, saying that pressures have boosted the Iranian nation's spirit of resistance.

“The Western sanctions against Iran over the past three decades have strengthened the spirit of resistance and self-reliance in the country,” Chairman of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said during a meeting with his Kenyan counterpart Mohamed Yusuf Haji in Tehran on Sunday.

“Contrary to the expectation of those who had designed and implemented cruel sanctions against Iran, our country quickly began to move towards the path of progress,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian parliamentarian commented on bilateral relations between Tehran and Nairobi and emphasized the necessity to promote mutual cooperation in all spheres, particularly in the area of parliamentary ties.

“The promotion of parliamentary ties will lead to the expansion of relations between the two countries in diverse areas, including economic and trade ties,” Boroujerdi said.

The Kenyan senator, for his part, described Iran as an important and influential country in the region, and said the Kenyan government attaches great importance to relations with Tehran.

Yusuf Haji also lauded Iran’s progress and achievements in various fields of science, industry and technology and called on Iran to share its scientific experiences with Kenya.
