Iranian Judoka Ghaseminejad Announce Retirement

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian judoka Amir Ghaseminejad announced his retirement after being knocked out of the 2014 Asian Games.

On Sunday, Ghaseminejad lost to Nacif Elias from Lebanon in the Men’s -81kg category and then was knocked out of the games with a loss against Uzbek athlete.

Kim Jae-bum from South Korea won the gold medal in the category. 

Ghaseminejad has won three Asian Championships bronze medals in 2011, 2012 and 2013.

“I was fully-prepared for the competitions but I don’t know what happened to me in the match against my Uzbek rival. I am very sad and I am ashamed because I failed to win a medal in the Asian Games. I bid farewell to the sport,” Ghaseminejad said.
