Moderation An Absolute Necessity in Modern World: Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – What the world has really felt in the contemporary era is the need for moderation and tackling extremism, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said on Sunday.

The urgent need for moderation comes against the backdrop of the heinous crimes committed by the terrorist groups in the world, said Marziyeh Afkham, who accompanies a delegation of Iranian diplomats in New York to attend the 69th annual session of the UN General Assembly.

She also referred to the UN General Assembly as a body that provides a good opportunity to deal with the threat of extremism.

Reiterating Iran’s emphasis on prevailing peace for all nations, the spokeswoman said the Islamic Republic has pursued that goal over the past three decades.

In December last year, the UN General Assembly unanimously approved Iran’s proposal for a World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE).

The resolution, which received overwhelming approval in the global body, also necessitates “appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace and to achieve international cooperation in solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character.”
