Iran to Set Up CNG Stations in Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) is to construct at least 10 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations in neighboring Iraq, an official at the company announced.

The construction of the stations will start when the pipeline carrying Iranian natural gas to Iraq becomes operational by March 2015, Amir Vakilzadeh said on Saturday.

He also emphasized that the project will be implemented by Iranian private and state-run companies, Press TV reported.

Iran is seen by the neighbors as a reliable source to fulfill their energy demands. Back in May, the Islamic Republic sealed an agreement to supply natural gas to Iraq.

The deputy oil minister announced at the time that gas exports to Iraq will start this Iranian year (March 21, 2014 - March 20, 2015).

Iranian and Iraqi oil ministers on July 21, 2013, signed the first deal to transfer Iran’s natural gas to feed two Iraqi power plants.

The project is aimed at supplying Al-Baghdad and Al-Mansouriyah power plants in Iraq with 25 million cubic meters (mcm) per day of natural gas.

Iran, which sits on the largest gas reserves in the world, seeks to enhance gas production by increasing foreign and domestic investments.
