Speaker Urges Prompt, Genuine Action to Reconstruct Gaza

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s parliament speaker called on the Muslim nations to help reconstruct the war-ridden Gaza Strip immediately.

“In a move free from the propaganda hullabaloo, the Islamic countries should take prompt action to help the oppressed people of Gaza reconstruct (the strip) ,” Ali Larijani said in a meeting with Secretary General of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement Ramadan Abdullah, in Tehran on Sunday.

The speaker also underlined that the media campaign launched by the Western media outlets about the extremist groups, such as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists, should not sideline the issue of Palestine.

For his part, the Palestinian figure emphasized the need for special attention to the reconstruction of the Gaza areas ravaged by the Israeli attacks.

Over 2,100 Palestinians, most of them civilians including more than 490 children, were killed in Gaza during a war that broke out on July 8, after Israel launched an offensive on the coastal enclave of 1.8 million population.

Thousands of homes in the Gaza Strip have been destroyed or damaged by the Israeli offensive.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights said 540,000 people had been displaced in the Gaza Strip.
