Iranian, Russian Diplomats Hold Nuclear Talks
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei in a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov discussed the latest status of nuclear negotiation between Iran and six world powers.
The meeting took place on Wednesday in Moscow, Russia’s Foreign Ministry website reported.
The two diplomats reportedly discussed a number of other international issues as well.
Russia, along with other members of the Group 5+1 –China, Britain, the US, France and Germany- is in talks with Iran to hammer out a final deal to end a decade of impasse over Tehran’s civilian nuclear work.
On November 24, 2013, Iran and the G5+1 (also known as the P5+1 or E3+3) signed an interim nuclear deal in the Swiss city of Geneva.
The Geneva deal (the Joint Plan of Action) came into effect in January and expired in July, when the parties decided to extend negotiations until November 24 in the hope of clinching a final deal that would end a decade of impasse over Tehran’s peaceful nuclear energy program.
Meanwhile, the negotiating parties are preparing for a new round of talks slated for November 18 in Vienna. The negotiations are seen as a last-ditch effort to reach an agreement by November 24 deadline.
