Iran Participating in Weightlifting World Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran will take part in the 2014 Weightlifting World Championship with eight men lifters.

The Iranian participants include: Majid Askari (56kg), Jaber Behrouzi and Morteza Rezaeian (69kg), Rasoul Taghian (77kg), Kianoush Rostami (85kg), Kia Ghadami and Mohsen Bahramzadeh(105kg), Behdad Salimi (+105kg).

The 2014 Weightlifting World Championship — a qualifying event for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro — will be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan from November 8 to 16.

About 700 weightlifters from 75 countries will participate in the prestigious tournament.

The competition will determine six Olympic slots for men and nine for women in at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil.

The World Weightlifting Championships is an event organized by International Weightlifting Federation (IWF). It has been held since 1891.
