Top Iranian Advisor Debunks Purposes Behind Formation of Takfiri Groups

“The Takfiri groups have been formed by intelligence services of Britain, the Zionist regime (of Israel) and the US,” Major General Seyed Yahya Rahim Safavi said on Wednesday, addressing a huge gathering of military forces in Iran’s central city of Yazd.

“The arrogance seeks to create war and discord between Sunnis and Shiites in the Islamic countries and to undermine the Islamic Awakening (movement) in the Muslim nations,” added Safavi, an advisor to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

Insecurity in the region would ensure safety of Israel and would also enable creators of the Takfiri groups in West Asia to boost arms sales to their allies and to have military presence in the Middle East, he explained.

Another purpose behind the formation of the Takfiri groups, the top officer noted, is to “weaken the political and spiritual influence of Iran in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.”

On Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Takfiri (extremist) groups have resurfaced to serve the interests of the arrogant powers, and called for a “scientific, inclusive” movement to eradicate the threat of Takfirism.

“The Takfiri movements and their sponsoring states are utterly serving the arrogant powers' objectives, namely (the objectives of) the US and the European colonialist governments as well as the Zionist regime (of Israel). They are practically serving them under an Islamic guise,” the Leader stressed.

Ayatollah Khamenei then elaborated on the facts which show the Takfiri currents are serving the interests of arrogant powers, and said, “The Islamic awakening was a move against the US, the arrogance and the US stooges but the Takfiri groups changed such an enormous anti-arrogance movement into a civil war and fratricide among Muslims.”
