Tehran, Ankara Cooperation Helpful for Entire Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said close ties between Iran and Turkey would benefit the whole region.

“The two countries’ close cooperation can help to establish stability and security in the entire region,” Rouhani said Wednesday in a meeting with the visiting Turkish foreign minister.

“Today, Tehran and Ankara share views on fighting terrorism as well as protecting the territorial integrity and stability and security of neighboring countries,” the Iranian chief executive added.

He also highlighted the political will in Tehran and Ankara for expanding relations in political, economic and cultural areas and called for greater steps to be taken in this direction.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in this meeting described his talks with Iranian officials in Tehran as constructive and said bilateral ties and regional issues were discussed in the meetings.

He also referred to the upcoming visit by Turkey’s president to Iran and expressed the hope that the visit will pave the way for further expansion of relations between the two neighboring countries.

Cavusoglu had earlier on Wednesday announced that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to pay an official visit to Tehran in January 2015 to explore avenues for the expansion of bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries.
