Police: Cop Shot, Killed in Florida, Suspect Caught
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - A gunman shot and killed a police officer in Pinellas County, Florida, early Sunday morning.
Officials said the shooting occurred around 3 am in Tarpon Springs and the perpetrator has been caught and is in custody.
Local media reported that police the officer was responding to a noise ordinance complaint after the suspect was heard banging on residential doors. The suspect then shot the officer and attempted to flee in a vehicle but was stopped.
Pictures of the suspect’s damaged car suggest he was cornered by police cruisers.
The local police department is flying their flag at half-staff and made a memorial for the slain officer, Sputnic reported.
It is the second shooting of a police officer over the weekend. Two NYPD officers were killed Saturday in what NYPD Commissioner called an “assassination.”
